Who's In Charge

When you have a problem what is the chain of command?

Nyack is a small manageable District.

In the elementary schools, problems should be addressed first to your child's teacher and then to the Principal.

Likewise, at the Middle and High Schools, your teacher is your first stop.  In these schools your child has a Guidance Counselor as well.  There are also Department Chairs to discuss curriculum issues with.  And ultimately, your Principal should help solve your problem.

Once these avenues have been exhausted, your next step is to approach the Superintendent directly.  And finally, The President of The School Board may be able to sort tings out.

There are other organizations that are there to help along the way. Your PTA may be able to help.  PIE is also ready to provide translators and/ or Advocates to attend meetings with you.

Generally speaking it is best to put complaints in WRITING at each of the above steps.  The more written documentation of the facts, the easier it will be to solve the problem.
