Hate Crime Ignored

What does our Superintendent of Schools do when a Black administrator is verbally berated and subjected to racial slurs?  Nothing. Until an outside organization steps in to apply pressure.

It happened on the first day of school when an irate parent- with a documented history of racial bias- had a tirade in an administrator's office.  The request for help, including additional security was denied.  The administrator was told , "it's your problem".  The administrator promptly called police and filed a report. Her tire was found punctured later that day and she called police back to the scene.

The administrator then took the complaint to the NAACP.  A private meeting was held at which the Superintendent again stated that she had handled the situation correctly.  The NAACP has filed a report of the incident with the Office of Civil Rights of the US Justice Department.

Special Ed Files Destroyed

Both the State of New York and the Office of Civil Rights are in the District investigating it's handling of Special Education.  In the face of these investigations the Central Administration saw fit to move certain files from the High School to their offices and then promptly destroyed many many documents claiming that they were "taking up too much space" and that the documents destroyed were "redundant".

The investigations continue.
