So how are we doing with the The Achievement Gap?
Here is some of the data released by the Nyack District this week:
Notes:
Passing grade is "3" or "4"
Source: Nyack School District
These tests are New York State English Language Arts and Math exams for Eighth and Fourth Graders that were administered in May 2000. They are theoretically an indicator of how children will fare on the tests they will be required to pass in order to obtain a diploma.
The key information is the last column which indicates, by race, how Nyack's 8th and graders fared. For example, on the ELA 8 Test (first data shown below) 22.64 % of black students taking this exam passed it. That means that 77.36% failed.
On the MATH 8, 9.23% of the black children taking the test failed, therefore, 89.77% failed.
The line labeled "NYS" is what the percentages were across the entire State of New York.
