Tips On Advocating

1.Take notes at all meetings- parent-teacher conferences, etc.

2. Don't walk away from a meeting if you feel your question has not been answered.

3. If you are not satisfied with a teacher's response to your question then address the issue with the building principal in writing

4. Bring a friend or relative along to meetings if it makes you feel more comfortable or if you need help because of language considerations.

5. At the Middle School and High School level: request team meetings with your child's teachers. They are far more productive than the few minutes of teacher conferences provided.

6. Create a "paper trail"! In other words, document your meetings with follow-up letters and try to get written responses to your questions

7.Contact Us  if you need help in any way--- to have someone accompany you to a meeting, find a translator or help write a letter.
