A not-for-profit, parent organization dedicated to public education reform in the Nyack School District of Rockland County, New York.
We've been remiss... our goal for this website was to provide current information and some historical perspective on the trends in public education. It hasn't worked out that way but we will make a better effort so stay tuned.
PIE's HOT TOPICS"The State" of TESTINGEvery day our children trudge off to school- 30 pound backpacks in tow- and are drilled with the same phrase: "The State says I need to know ________ (fill in the blank) about __________ (fill in the subject matter). "The State" now tests every subject and our teachers spend every classroom moment drilling the material that will be on those tests. After all, what would the point be of discussing anything that "The State" deems unnecessary. Soon, "The State" will even test our children on "art"- standardized "State" approved art, that is. The Board of Education and our Administrators? Oh, they're still around filling their days and shuffling papers, committees and statistics ("State" statistics, of course). Nyack was even ahead of this trend- we recognized early on that "The State" was coming and hired an accountant to be our Superintendent of Schools. In the coming month PIE will do it's best to alert you to the latest "State" developments and what, if anything, you can do about it all.
No child left out of WARA little known fact: Mr. Bush's "No Child Left Behind" education bill that was signed into law in 2001 has a provision that REQUIRES public schools to allow military recruiters into their buildings and REQUIRES schools to provide names and addresses of all students to the military. The consequence of not complying is the loss of Federal Education funds.
